Financial Freedom
Our financial freedom strand aims to work with people in the UK diaspora to help communities in the Global South with innovative financial solutions. We believe that when people in the diaspora have the right financial tools, they act as a bridge, creating new opportunities and a better future for everyone involved. By using Bitcoin (the world's first and only truly decentralised digital currency), we make it easier, faster, and cheaper for these communities to send money, support projects and empower the people and causes they care about.
At Groundswell, we see four main ways this model makes a real difference:
Sending Money Home (Remittances): We help people in the UK use Bitcoin to send money across borders with much lower fees and no long delays. This means families back home actually receive more of the money sent to them, helping them stay financially stable.
Direct Giving: This allows people to send money directly to local projects and neighbours without needing a "middleman" like a big bank. It’s faster, and you can see exactly where the money is going.
Female Empowerment: We teach women how to hold and manage their own Bitcoin. Having their own "digital wallet" gives them more power over their own money, leading to better security and leadership roles in their communities.
Micro-Finance: Bitcoin makes it easier for people ignored by traditional banks to save money and start small businesses. With the right education, communities can build their own financial systems that work for them.
By partnering with these UK communities, and local partners in places like Kenya, we are opening new ways for people to become financially independent and support one another across the world.
